About SCHOP Grindlay Street
This former grocer's shop has been overhauled to form a flexible modern environment, with the addition of new amenities to create a comfortable place of work. Key details of the existing shop have been carefully preserved, and contrast visually with the new inserts, allowing the building's past to become part of its future. Schop Grindlay Street comprises co-working space for up to 6 individuals, either freelancers or small businesses. Grindlay Street was created as part of the expansion of residential Edinburgh in the 1860s, and gained its name from Mr Grindlay, the former owner of the land on which it now stands. The premises at No. 5 have no doubt played host to several different trades over the years, but will be most familiar to current residents of the city as Fox's Grocers, popular with taxi drivers for their morning bacon roll.

About Schop

Started by a small team of architects in 2008, Schop quickly found that sharing a work space and overheads with other individuals and micro businesses meant they were all more resilient through the recession. Schop is now a fully fledged co-working work space business offering dedicated desk space and business services at an affordable price and flexible terms in attractive city centre locations in quirky Victorian former shops in Edinburgh. Schop is simply an old Scots word for shop, deriving from the french échoppe, meaning a stall or market stand. Schop brought it back into circulation to describe their premises, each of which exist in traditional former shops in lively city centre neighbourhoods. These have been carefully renovated to retain some of their charm while creating a comfortable and welcoming place to work.
